Modern Microbial Communities Research

Modern microbial communities provide excellent analogs for ancient microbialites. In them, we can study chemical processes that can be captured in minerals like calcite and aragonite. Here are some of our projects:

The Slime Cams

(Please reload the page to see an updated image. Under "normal" conditions, it updates at MOST every 30 minutes, only when there is enough light to see something, and only if the camera is turned on. We refresh it more often when we are starting experiments, but that only happens every few days or so.)

!!!The cameras are now repositioned due to Department of Homeland Security anti-terrorism constraints. The camera views will be returned to normal as soon as activity in the lab returns to the "watch the grass growing" activities!!!
