Geology 100L: Extension and Translation

Fall 2007

This is the website for the laboratory portion of GEL100, which introduces the basics of structural geology. The lab focuses on teaching the basic skills needed to create and interpret geologic maps, to use stereonets to solve geometric problems, and to construct geologic cross sections. We emphasize the importance of developing the ability to visualize in three dimensions some of the complex geometries that are commonly encountered in geology.

Students enrolled in GEL100L are expected to visit this website every week before attending lab and to download and print the assignment for that week's lab.

Students are also encouraged to check this website for periodic announcements pertaining to the lab assignments or changes in the schedule.

This site is also a great starting point for students who want to seek outside information that pertains to the study and practice of structural geology. Some of the links will take you to animations or "3D" diagrams that may help you with this course.
