Until recently, my research focused on the petrology of ancient metavolcanic rocks in the northern Sierra Nevada. Presently, I am investigating Oligocene ash-flow tuffs in the northern Sierra, and Miocene volcanic and sedimentary rocks in Baja California. I tend to concentrate on the field aspects, petrography, and chemistry of these rocks, and collaborate with others at UNR and UCD on ⁴⁰Ar/³⁹Ar dating, microprobe analysis, and paleomagnetic studies.
