- Spotlight: Virtual Reality - Geologists plumb the depths, immersed in a three-dimensional illusion
- "Hot Fluids and Deep Earthquakes" - Fluids in the Earth's lower crust are an underlying force in shaking things up where continental plates slip under each other, according to a study recently published in Nature. Donna Eberhart-Phillips, a UC Davis researcher in geology, collaborated on the study.
- Ryosuke Motani is awarded the Commendation for Science and Technology: The Young Scientists' Prize by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Ryosuke is one of only two awardees who live outside of Japan. The prize is geared toward recognizing advances in technology; Ryosuke has been recognized for his research on fish-like swimming.
