RIMS (Real-Time, Interactive Mapping System)

Question: What is RIMS?  RIMS is an interactive mapping tool that allows users to visualize digital terrain model, draped with a texture (e.g. ortho-photograph, satellite imagery, hillshade, etc…), in a 3D immersive environment.  Using the software, users can manipulate the perspective and vertical exaggeration of their terrain models while simultaneously mapping geologic and geomorphic features of interest.

Examples: Screen shots from RIMS of select slip rate sites along Altyn Tagh Fault (2005 & 2006 field seasons). DEMs generated from topographic measurements made with a Leica total station (TCR407power).
